International Day of Rescue-Dogs with 1.500 teams – from Japan to Canada Approximately 1.500 Rescue-Dog teams took part in the first International Day of Rescue-Dogs held on Sunday, April 26th 2009-04-27. First it was the Japanese organisation which opened the series of events in presenting 72 dogs at their work. At the event in the Urkraine, also teams from Russia and Romania took part.

To being able to get so close to Rescue Dogs was very exciting especially for children. Teams form Germany and Austria were also very well represented. Closing up the International Day of Rescue Dogs were the four Canadian mission teams showing their training and mission work in Edmonton (Canada West).

The bow around the world was therefore almost drawn once and it was well documented how rescue dogs and their (voluntary) handlers are on standby around the clock day and night to search and rescue missing persons.

Dr. Wolfgang Zörner, president of the International Rescue-Dog Organisation: “ The activities of Rescue-Dog teams around the world on that very day was really impressive. And the opportunity to present the importance of such voluntary work to the public was demonstrated once more.“

Acclamation also being done by the UN/INSARAG organisation, representing the disaster management organisation within the UN, through Mr. Attila Tartar. With this Day of Rescue Dogs he truly hopes to increase the reputation and acceptance of all the voluntary Rescue-Dog handlers and their precious work being done.

The International Day of Rescue Dogs is being held worldwide every year on the last Sunday in April. So, the next will take place on Sunday, April 25th 2010.
