76 dog teams from 13 countries will start
76 teams from 13 nations will compete from 1st to 5th of July 2009 at the 15th IRO Rescuedog World Championship in and around the big dog training centre of Craiova in the southern part of Romania. They will go for gold, silver and bronze in the disciplines Tracking- , Area-, Rubble- and Water Search. Additional there will also be a team competition.
Most of the participants come from the Czech Republic and Slovenia (each 17) followed by Hungary (11), Germany and Austria (each 6). The other participants come from Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, France, Finland, Croatia, Japan and Sweden.
The president of the IRO (International Rescuedog Organisation), Dr. Wolfgang Zörner: “It is a great pleasure that the IRO World Championship for rescuedogs will take place in Romania for the first time. We hope that the presence of so many rescuedog handlers from all over the world will be a big motivation for Romanian rescuedog handlers.”
Competitions like the Rescuedog World Championship are not just held to keep the dogs on the highest level, they are also for comparing each other, exchanging experiences and to have a look at the international work. According to Dr. Zörner in the last decade, because of the comparison of the international performance and due to the strict IRO testing standards, the educational level of the dogs have risen enormously.
