Charleroi 2015  -  Belgium

dogs breeders dog pictures by Karl Donvil
Charleroi 2015 The Royal Club Canin de Hainaut, organizers of this show, have had several turbulent years behind them. A few years without show, but now a slow and steady come-back. Unfortunately, the typical date, the first weekend of October, there was a CACIB show in the Netherlands, in Zwolle and another one in Germany, Rostock, and that must have affected the number of entries compared to last year. There was a drop down from 1725 back to 1514, but many organizers would be happy with such a good number. During this show the Belgian Great Dane Club organized the European Championship for Great Danes in a separate hall, but that could not make the difference. 14 Countries were represented. The majority were Belgians with 849 entries, followed by France with 409 entries. Due to their CACIB shows in their own countries there were only 94 entries from the Netherlands and 85 from Germany. 14 Russian dogs were entered and 24 UK dogs plus another two Irish dogs. The difference in entries between Saturday and Sunday was significant, while on Saturday there were only 518 entries, on Sunday there were almost double as much dogs, 996 to be precise. But that is certainly no problem for the big halls that have enough space available. But what a pity that those halls are still unchanged since the fifties. They are really ugly and unattractive. The alderman of animal welfare paid a visit to the show. Let's hope that he realizes that the city expo halls should have a refurbishment. It should be one of the principal buildings of a city that accept visitors from all parts of the world. Of course it leaves the committee no choice as to use the only expo hall available in the city. Fortunately the friendliness of the committee people is so great and warm and that is also very important. The young lady, responsible for the stands, paid a visit each day to see if everything was OK. Where do we see this? Congratulations. Unfortunately this could not help the fact that gypsies managed to empty the cash desk of one of the stand holders. I still remember the bad sound installation years ago. It was hardly possible to understand the speaker. That has changed for good now. The sound is more than OK. It was however a little strange to find one of the French judges as the speaker. Mr.Jean Jacques Dupas took charge of it and he was excellently understandable. The main ring has always been against the window and I would consider to change that as the public has the huge windows facing them and that makes it difficult to see the dogs if the sun shines, creating a strong backlight. The catalog was OK and the timing was correct, finishing the main ring program within reasonable time. It all went smoothly and fluently. The groupwinners from Saturday had to come back on Sunday for the finals. Only the winner of the sighthound group didn't manage to be there.

18 Judges from 9 nationalities were invited. In the time before the committee crisis I was stressing that for a CACIB show there were too much Belgian judges in the panel, sometimes more than 80%. That was no longer the case as there were only 4 invited, compared to the 6 from France. This is the way it should be, at least for a CACIB show. The balance should tilt to an overweight of foreign judges. On Saturday only 9 judges were officiating, 18 on Sunday. On Saturday 5 judges had a score of over 70 entries. Mr De Gids from the Netherlands judged breeds of group 1. He had 78 entries. On Sunday he had less dogs but 26 Bernese Mountain dogs. Mr.Inzoli from Italy had 71, all out of group 5. Mrs. Kerssemeijer from the Netherlands had 73 entries and a total of 122 over both days. Mr.Luis Pinto Teixeira from Portugal was the second most successful judge of the weekend, 74 on Saturday, including 23 Whippets, and 76 on Sunday. But it was Mr.J-J Dupas from France who was the top scorer with 79 on Saturday and 83 on Sunday. He had a nice number of 23 Akita's and 45 Chinese Cresteds and Powderpuffs. Mrs. Urek from Slovenia had a total score of 131. On Sunday she had the Chihuahua's and they were the show's tops coring breed. Mr.M.Baskaran came from Spain only tojduge on Sunday, but he had a nice entry of 78 Dachshunds an some Terriers. The best single day score went to Mrs.H.Denis from France. She judged 91 dogs and that included the popular 35 Bulldogs. Her compatriot rs.Tompousky had 74 dogs to judge and she had the small variety, the French Bulldogs and also 35 in total. Mr. Matterac has also the French nationality and judged the 71 Poodles. From Switzerland came Mr.Furlani. He was invited for the Dobermanns, Leonbergers and Rottweilers and finished with 77 all together in his ring.

Best In Show judging was granted to Mr.Teixeira. The finalists were all high class and it promised to become a difficult choice. His 3rd place went to "Hunderwood Heritage". This 3 year old Yorkshire Terrier male had 10 competitors to beat. His judge was Mr. Baskaran who was the group judge as well. Heritage was bred by Mr.Eric Bernard from France. The second place went to the gentle black giant, the Tchiorny Terrier "Free Phoenix Haelleas Beohemica de Koslova. This 5 year old male lives win Switzerland with Jennifer-Piotr Bem- Grzybek, who entered 3 for this show. Mr.Torsten Lemmer from Bulgaria was the breed judge, Mr.Furlani Danilo from Switserland the group judge. Mrs. Urek Tatjana judged the winning dog, not only for the breed judging but for the group judging as well. It was the Weimaraner shorthaired "Doc N'Camelot Heaven Can Wait". 11 Were entered. Doc is 5 years old and imported from the USA and is now owned by Lenaerts-Finch-Van Der Sichel.

For next year we can only hope that this show will not have that much of competition from other CACIB shows in neighboring countries.
